I’m a retired Episcopal priest living in Tracyton, Washington. I started my art practice when our sons left home for college in 2006, and I continually strive to improve my technique and broaden my style. My goal is continual to create excellent landscapes, portraits, and life drawings, painted in a loose style. My heroes are Trevor Chamberlain, Edward Seago, and Edward Wesson. I’m currently taking an online watercolor class with Eric Wiegardt, and I’ve studied with Stella Canfield, Tom Hoffman, and Herman Pekel.

Every day I look for interesting subjects to sketch or paint, and I try to capture the impressions of local life. I especially enjoy exploring the back roads of Kitsap County to discover forgotten places like estuaries, cemeteries, and docks; and the old farms, buildings, and barns that characterized life here fifty or a hundred years ago.

I’m a member of Plein Air Washington Artists, a group of artists who get together to paint in the open air. I attend a life drawing group every Friday morning in Bainbridge Island, where we draw and paint a live model for three hours. I’m also a member of Poulsbo Artist League, a group of artists that meets every Wednesday afternoon.

I’m married to Katy, a professor of anthropology at South Puget Sound Community College in Olympia, and we have two grown sons, Guy and Chad.
